This year’s “2015 Asia-Pacific Cultural Day” was sponsored by Department of Foreign Affairs and held at Taipei main station grand lobby multi function area on October 24-25, 2015.
The two-day exhibitions and activities were filled with wonderful and rich cultural presentation by different countries in the Asia-Pacific region, warmly welcomed by thousands of onlookers.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Minister Linghu Rongda  令狐榮達 officiated the opening ceremony on October 24. Meanwhile, Taiwan Vice President Wu Dunyi (吳敦義) also visited the event on that day and said in his speech that, the Asia-Pacific Cultural Day gives a unique experience for the people wherein they don’t have to go abroad to enjoy and learn about the culture of the participating countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister David Lin (林永樂), also visited on the second day of the event, he went to every booth of participating countries to extend his warm regards. Minister Lin cited that this year’s cultural Event is very successful and is an excellent platform for cultural exchange among Asia-Pacific countries. He’s very thankful for the enthusiastic participation of embassies and representative offices that made the activities more exciting.
The event brought together a total of 19 national agencies in Taiwan to participate in the Asia-Pacific region, including Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and other countries in the Pacific region of six diplomatic allies, as well as Australia; 13 other Asia-Pacific countries, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. The event has brought participating countries and the people a chance to interact and learn about each other.
The event showcased the unique art of woodcarvings and other traditional craft items from the Pacific island. Countries from Southeast Asia also showcased their traditional cuisine, Indian hand-painted art, traditional Korean costumes which people try on to pose for pictures, and Japanese “mochi” pounding experience, and many more exhibitions which showed the unique cultural experience from the countries in the Asia-Pacific region. As the host country, Taiwan also carefully prepared traditional dance and martial arts performances on stage. The diverse variety of exciting performances attracted thousands of crowd, which not only contribute to the success of the Asia-Pacific cultural day, but also promote mutual understanding and friendship among countries.
